(For a more thorough treatment of the latest claims on this topic and what the Bible says about UFOs/UAPs, please read my article titled: "What Does the Bible Say About Aliens and UFOs/UAPs?")

The topic of UFOs (often referred to as UAPs now) is gaining steam once again. Here is the rundown.

First, former President Obama announced in an interview that aliens are real.

Then, President Trump accused the former president of revealing classified information and gave the direction to release the UFO files.

Finally, around the same time, Lara Trump claimed that President Trump has a speech prepared on extraterrestrial life, but he's waiting for the right time to deliver it.

We live in strange times. But I suppose, to make matters even stranger, these stories didn't seem to dominate the news.

I thought it would be intriguing, with all of this UFO/UAP talk in the headlines, to demonstrate that there are actually UFO religions that exist. As Christians, it is important for us to be aware of them.

Irving Hexham provides an explanation of the central claims from UFO religions:

"Religions based on contact with space aliens who visit earth in Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). Since the publication of George Adamski's Flying Saucers have Landed (1953), numerous new religions have developed, all of which claim to be based on contact, real or telepathic, between their founder or founders and the occupants of UFOs. These are usually said to be the spacecraft of an advanced civilization."[1]

Here are a few names of the prominent UFO groups.

Examples:

  • Aetherius Society (founded by George King)

  • Raelian Movement (founded by Claude Rael)

  • Heaven's Gate Community

  • Solar Temple.[2]

We live in a world that is filled with all types of false ideas and religions that are designed to lead us astray. In fact, Revelation 12:9 demonstrates that Satan's deception stretches across the whole world.

Let’s be watchful for this prowling lion who seeks to deceive us (1 Pet. 5:8). And let’s join Paul's refrain: we are not ignorant of Satan's designs (2 Cor. 2:11).
